Hey everyone.
As some of you may know, there have been some changes to the unallocatedspace board of directors. I (Crypt0s) am now president of Unallocatedspace following Dave Marcus’s resignation due to travel and availibility. With this Presidency, I am making significant changes at Unallocatedspace in the way that we do things around here, and the way that we are viewed by others.
My plan to accomplish this is three-pronged:
- Revitalize — Get people teaching classes, have regular events and meetups starting this month. Get Unallocatedspace using social media to advertise the teaching, and get new people into the space. This requires everyone to bring new people and get involved.
- Rethink — We need to make rules in order to improve our member saftey, comfortability, and ability to work. No more fireworks, no more hard liquor. We’ve been ignoring the “Teach” and “Learn” aspects of our motto and focusing too much on “Party”. Not any more.
- Reorganize — We’re not building the kind of environment that people want to have in order to come in and work on projects, or learn and interact. That changes now. We’re moving storage to the loft, making a kitchen area and lounge, and moving workshops and workstations to more suitable locations. We’re also getting rid of our more useless junk.
I need each and every one of us to step up and enact this plan while we go through this transitional phase. Without our monthly donations and dues, we will not survive past August. I need a few things from our members and friends:
- Continue to donate
- Bring by new people
- Think of a project or class you can build or teach
I know we can make Unallocatedspace everything we imagined if we work together.

Glad to see change, especially “Rethink”.
Unfortunately, due to scheduling, I have only been able to make it to unallocated once during the “old rules” so I can’t speak on how this new plan differs; however I can say it sounds like a great plan and should appeal to a wide audience. I will say that changing focus to teach n learn is good but don’t forget the party part
The only thing I can think of after that is “Sir Yes Sir” and I’ve never been there, right the ship Bro!
I like the vision and hope that things continue to work out for the space. I’ve actually been talking to a friend about stopping by to find out more about the space. I would love to stop by for the assembly class next Friday, but I’m not sure what the rules are on that for non-members.
Rules for the hackerspace, and I say this as a “non-member”, are to show up and learn/contribute. If you have the means to make a donation to the upkeep then all means do so, but it is not mandatory (some classes are paid but most aren’t). They are very welcoming.
